Watercolor is a medium which I love to work with. But it was a challenge for me for a long time. I love its self-expressiveness. That means it has its own flow and freedom which you tried to control with a brush. And that makes watercolor different from the other mediums which have more control. I personally think watercolor should be the first medium for the new artists.
The red-breasted robin, scientifically known as Erithacus rubecula is also known as European Robin is a very cute bird measuring hardly 5.0 to 5.5 inches. Both the male and female in similar in coloration and have an orangy colored feather on the breast. Except for the orange colored feathers on the breast, the whole bird has bluish gray feather all over the body and slightly darker brownish wings. So, here is my palette for the whole painting.
Painting lips are sometimes very tricky. But understanding the basic shape of the lip may help to get rid of this kind of difficulties. The picture below shows the anatomy of a basic lip. Is it too much? Maybe. But you don’t need to remember all the anatomical terms to paint a realistic lip. Just remember the structure. That’s it.
This painting in Acrylic is very close to my heart. He was a very kind person in our town and I used to call him Bordeuta in Assamese, which means Grandpa. It was commissioned by his son to give respect to his soul on his death anniversary. It was quite challenging to draw the painting because the reference picture was very low in details.
